Run Like Hale

RUN LIKE HALE UPDATE - 2022!

With the weather warming up and summer just around the corner, it’s time to start preparing for the Run Like Hale. This 10k fun run to raise funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society will be on Saturday July 30th

Like most races and public events, we have had to sit out the past 2 years due to Covid. We have used that time to reflect on what is working and what we can improve on.  The run was created by Wayne Wheatley as a way to fundraise for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The organization is near and dear to us as well as our mother passed from Leukemia in 2010.

With Wayne’s relocation out of state, he asked us to take over as host of this community event. We were more than happy to do so as our friends and family loved participating in this event. The community is great and it is common to see many people around the lake cheering the runners on and occasionally giving them a spritz of the water sprinklers on the hotter years. Local police and fire department provide their services to ensure our runners have a safe experience. Walkers are always welcome also!

Our goals for Run Like Hale are:

First and foremost-raise the maximum amount of donations for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to help their mission in fighting and finding a cure. (Learn more at the LLS website https://www.lls.org/)

Provide a fun social event for the community, family, and friends in the Hale community.

The race continued to grow in participants and many changes were made over the years. Although these changes gave the race a more professional feel, they came at a cost that has made our donations to LLS not at a level that we would have liked.

With that said, to hit the goal of donating as much as possible to LLS, we will be reducing the costs that allow us to return to the fundraising event for which it was created. We have decided to make the race a “fun” run with many of the same features - but without the extraneous costs of timers, medals and online registration.

The race occurs the last Saturday in July every year. This year we will be running or walking starting at 8am Saturday, July 30th!  A few things to keep in mind:

  • Sign up locations for the fun run will be announced on our Face Book page at Run Like Hale 10K.

  • The Starting location and Finish line is located on Kokosing Rd. with parking in the boat launch/public beach area.

  • A Run Like Hale T-shirt showing your support of this great community event will be given the day of the race.

  • People who can’t participate, but want to donate receive a 0.0 Run Like Hale T-shirt with their donation.

We hope you will join us and look forward to seeing everyone.  Please visit us at  Run Like Hale 10K on Facebook.
